'Osthi': Who plays what?
While we know that STR is playing a carefree cop Velan in his forthcoming film 'Osthi', here goes the list of other characters from this film that has set in much expectations among the young and masses at urban and rural centers.
Naasser plays STR's father, while Revathy his mother. 'Jithan' Ramesh is STR's brother in this movie and his love interest is Saranya Mohan. Needless to say, Richa Gangopadhyay, the Tollywood import, plays Simbu's lady love.
Wait, we have more to say. STR's close friend and producer VTV Ganesh has played Richa's father in this film directed by Dharani, while Santhanam, Mayilsamy and Vaiyapuri have played the colleagues of the hero in police station. And Thambi Ramaiah is playing a crucial character role.
Sonu Sood has done a powerful baddie and 'Osthi' will be an important film in his career, it is said. STR's special song with Mallika Sherawat, 'Kalasala...' has been picturised on a whopping budget and plans are on to release the movie by the end of this month.Source :Indiaglitz

Osthi’s release
Reports that Osthi’s release is to be postponed to December appear to be false. There was news yesterday appearing in certain section of the media that the STR starrer Osthi will be released next month.
Enquiries, however, revealed the heavy rains are the major problem as the Osthi team has to shoot the climax portions outdoors. Following the rains, director Dharani and team have decided to put off the shooting and this is likely to delay the release.
However, the release date has now been confirmed to be on November 23rd, according music director Thaman and Jithan Ramesh who has done an important role in the film.

Osthi - Status quo
'Osthi' featuring STR, Richa Gangopadhyay, Sonu Sood, Santhanam and VTV Ganesh is the remake of Bollywood blockbuster 'Dabangg' and has music by Thaman. The audio was released by Ilayathalapathy Vijay and the songs have topped the charts. There's also an item number featuring Mallika which is one of the highlights. The trailer received much popularity in networking sites with fans going gaga over it.Although 'Osthi' was supposed to release on November 18, the climax scenes of the film that are being canned are delayed due to the rains due to which the film has seen a delay by one week. However, trade sources believe that both the movies will release in November and not push to December.

I didn't want to copy Salman: 'Osthi' star STR
Like his father T Rajendar, Silambarasan (Simbu to all) is a pretty good multitasker. Besides the many movies he has acted in since 1987, he directed 'Vallavan' (2006), wrote the chartbuster song 'Where's the party tonight?' and has sung numerous songs including 'Loosu penne' ('Vallavan'). Simbu's fan base only grew after Gautam Menon's 2010 hit, 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa'. And now comes 'Osthe', the remake of the Hindi monster hit, 'Dabangg'. More from the 26-year-old actor, who has added Mallika Sherawat to his list of admirers.
When I was offered this role, I knew I'd have to make it my own. Though we adapted few nuances from the original, like when Salman takes his sunglasses and hangs it on his collar, everything else is presented in a new light. I have not spoken to Salman Khan yet. We will meet after 'Osthe' releases.
Mallika Sherawat:
I had read a lot about Mallika (Sherawat) but I hadn't met her before this. While shooting for 'Kalasala', she told me people were tweeting her, asking her to better her moves because she would be dancing with me (laughs). I admire the way she carried off those typical koothu moves. I did share some tips but she is a good performer in her own right.
Honest people inspire me:
I am aware that I meet people who act honest and have intentions to take advantage of me, but I trust my instincts. I know when people are genuine and when they aren't.
There are many remakes in the film industry:
This does not mean there is a lack of new ideas. Good cinema should reach a wider audience. 'Dabanng' was a blockbuster and it is a good movie, there's no harm in sharing the same story with a different section of the audience.
I was shocked:
I was shocked and perhaps paranoid when I read the reports of my six pack for 'Osthe'. I didn't want people to have the wrong expectations from the film, because I was really not planning to show off my body. But when the news spread, I spoke to my director and decided that I would shape up for the climax sequence.
Stress:
To deal with stress, I just listen to music. It charges me and fills me up with good spirit. My favourite is 'Kadhal Valarthen' ('Manmathan').
Given all the aspects of filmmaking, I believe music is the most essential. Be it background music or a song, music completes a film. I am very particular about getting good music for all my movies. If there's a sequence in slow motion, and if you have music to go with it, it becomes better.
I am an emotional person. When I get involved in a relationship, I give my 100 per cent. I don't care if she is an actress or if she belongs to any other profession. If I love someone, I love her with all my heart. This applies to my work as well.
All time viewing :
'Notebook' (2004): Because the man (played by Ryan Gosling) was in love with her (Rachel Adams) until she dies.
'Perfume' (2004): It is a very different kind of a movie. The protagonist goes to lengths to search for the ultimate scent. The movie almost lets you smell the scent.
'Oru Thalai Ragam' (1980): It is about one sided love. The protagonist (Vijaya Rajendra) is crazily in love but the woman realises it only after he dies. I believe this a unique film in Tamil cinema.
'Osthe' is scheduled to release on November .

STR takes on Sonusood
In Kollywood, filmmakers usually aim for a grand opening (at the BO) and a grander ending (the climax of their film). And this is exactly what Dharani and STR seem to be doing for their Osthe as well. We hear a lot of changes have been made to the script to suit the Tamil audience and keeping in mind STR’s image. A huge set has been erected near Chennai, where the unit is shooting their climax sequence now. While the action sequence in the climax was the highlight of the original flick, sources tell us that there are several highlights in the Tamil film climax as well.
“The stunt sequences, plus the scene in which Salman and Sonu Sood take off their shirts to reveal their six-packs, were the talking point of the original. Now, Dharani wants to make sure the climax sequence also get talked about. The shooting is likely to go on for about 10 days and only the stunt sequences on Simbu and Sonu Sood will be canned now. There will be bare body sequences featuring both of them and the actors have given it their all to achieve a good physique,” a source reveals.
STR had said that it has become inevitable for him to develop a six-pack because he can’t avoid comparisons between him and Salman, at least during the climax scene. “He has followed a strict diet and has been working out a lot. He has lost a lot of weight and looks.

STR to take off his shirt today
STR cannot stop gushing about his film with Dharani, Osthi. He says that it is going to be a milestone in his career and credit goes entirely to Dharani. STR praised his director and said that he had inspired him to work hard on the film and the results will soon be there for everyone to see.
The climax scene is being filmed today in Chennai and STR will be taking off his shirt for this scene. He has been hitting the gym with regularity and his vaunted six pack abs will be on display. The trailer was released this Diwali and the music has also been launched. Both have been well received and Osthi and STR seem ready to rock this November.

Osthi Trailor for Diwali
Osthi directed by Dharani was supposed to release in time for Diwali but unfortunately for STR fans the film was not ready on time. But the fans can sill get a slice of Silambarasan this Diwali as the theatrical trailer will be released.
STR, Richa Gangopadhyay, and Sonu Sood are the main leads in the film. Earlier, promos of three songs were released and the music by Thaman has become quite the rage. So before the big release, hopefully in November, the fans will get a taste of things to come with the trailer.

Osthi - Kalasala Gaana Review
Baba Sehgal, Ranjith, Rahul Nambiar, Naveen Madhav
Looks like Vaali, instead of ink, has filled his pen with youthfulness. And it is failing to dry even after decades. Sample 'Osthi Maamey...' to believe us, as the veteran, in the company of young guns (music composer Thaman and singers Baba Sehgal, Ranjith, Rahul Nambiar, Naveen Madhav) has scored a perfect tune. A racy opening on the lines of such numbers in 'Dhil', 'Dhool' and 'Ghilli'. Simbu's 'kuthu' in this number is going to be a highlight.
Unnale Unnale :
Thaman S, Rita
Besides giving his best on the music front, Thaman has crooned this number too, in association with Rita. A folk number which speaks about the relationship between a young man and a woman, Yugabharathi's lyrics adds more meaning to Thaman's composition. The singer in Thaman is in full form. What starts as a folk, becomes a melody as it progresses, adding a mesmerizing feel.
Rahul Nambiar, Mahathi
A mass duet with instruments blazing on a fast track, 'Neduvaali...' will give the listeners a mood to tap their feet, if at all they are not in a mood to dance. Rahul Nambiar's power-packed rendering and Mahathi's mellifluous voice do the expected magic. Yugabharathi has liberally used words like 'damaal' and 'dumeel'. Exactly that's how the song is. Thaman rocks.
Pondatti :
Silambarasan
STR is at his best when it comes to penning lyrics that are loaded with latest lingo. After 'Loosu pennay' and 'Evandi unnai pethan', here comes the Young Superstar with 'Pondatti...' The actor has taken charge of the singing department too, which he has done with ease and elan. Thaman has broken the popular theory that only Yuvan Shankar Raja can cater to Simbu and his fans.
Vijaya T Rajendar, L R Easwari
The best is perhaps reserved for the last. 'Kalasala...' the Tamil equivalent of Bollywood chartbuster 'Munni... fulfills all expectations, and even exceeds at some places. With TR and L R Easwari, the two energetic performers, crooning it at high levels, 'Kalasala...' is set to take Thaman to great heights in Kollywood. For it strikes an instant chord in the very first beat and the tempo is maintained till the very end.

Media made six pack inevitable : STR
Following the music release of the much expected Osthi, remake of the Hindi blockbuster Dabbang, directed by Dharani, the team of the film hosted a press conference on Thursday to give further details. They were obviously delighted at the enthusiastic response to the sound tracks of the movie and looked very upbeat about their product.
Speaking to the press, Mayilsaamy, part of Osthi’s cast said that Silambarasan had taken extra care and effort in all departments of the film; recalling that the actor had been involved in many late night discussions with music director Thaman about the finer details of the sound tracks. Jithan Ramesh, also part of the film’s cast thanked director Dharani for giving a very strong and important role in the film.
Thaman said that the response to Osthi is bound to put a lot of pressure on his future projects, especially the Kalasala item number featuring Mallika Sherawat, which is predicted to be a rage. He said that whenever a composer delivered a hit item number or ‘kuthu’ number, there would be similar expectations from all his future albums.
STR spoke and said that he had carefully watched Salman Khan’s performance in Dabbang and then decided the way he would go about the character in Osthi. He was a bit unsure about how to deal with the scene where Salman had flaunted his six packs. When he asked Dharani the same, the director said that they would cross the bridge when they came to it. But, the media got ahead of the director and brought out news of STR’s possible six pack look in Osthi. This left STR and Dharani with little choice because they did not want to disappoint eager fans. So, STR started working out and has sported a flawless pack of abs in Osthi.
Dharani said that he initially had planned to take his time with Osthi and give a very good product. But, after the start of filming, the flow of things was very good and he ended up wrapping up the film in a single schedule of 93 days and the outcome also has been very good.
With the music on its way to becoming a rage, fans are eagerly waiting the release of Osthi in theatres.

Osthi Mass Effect
The Osthe audio launch, which started fashionably later than the even usual Kollywood standard (the explanation given was that the cast and crew had just landed in the city that morning after a strenuous song shoot in Dubai), made up for the misstep with a show that was peppered with foot-tapping, massy music (all the songs from the film were performed by music director Thaman’s team) and a hilarious skit by anchor Jagan. Following that, all the celebs who had made it to the event (which included actors Vijay, Jai, Mahat, Vaibhav, Premgi, veterans K Bhagyaraj, Vijayakumar, Nasser) were called on to the stage and the audio was released by Vijay and received by veteran lyricist Vaali.

Osthi - Music Hot review
Thaman's Osthe starts of with the energetic Osthe Maamey.. a sure shot hit with the Masses a sure shot hit with the masses. While Baba sehgal does mess up with Tamil lyrics a bit the fast paced number will be an apt intr song for the Tamil remake of Dabaangg. The music composer himself gets crooning in the second song of the album .Unnale unnale and digitally enhances his voices a lot .Neduveli is s fast placed number sung by Rahul Nambiar and Mahati another one for the masses. As is the masses. As is the case with most str flims. the hero himself gets singing with Pondatti the lyrics of which bring a smile to your face.its's intresting how the same word .if repeated half-a-dozen times with fast beats in the background almost assures composers of a hit. We're referring to the much -hyped Kalasala(the Tamil equivalent of the chartbuster Munni Babnaam hui) sung by LR Easwari and T.rajendar which suits the needs of the situation and the flim quite well foot tapping in nature, this rocking number's surely going to have the audience up from their seats and their feet.
HOT TIP : Fast paced masala fare from Thaman. Ratings : Good
Sony music : Price 99 only.
