1 crore for Str's Munni!

Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone are in the race to do the sexy item number in Osthi

Malaika Arora Khan made Munni a household name last year. And the makers of Osthi, the Tamil remake of Dabanng, are looking for an actress with equal oomph who can make the audience here dance to her tunes!
There are many names of top Bollywood heroines doing the rounds for this top item number picturised with Simbu and ‘villain’ Sonu Sood. According to sources, it looks like Simbu and director Dharani are keen on roping in Sheila Ki Jawani girl, Katrina Kaif, for the hot item number. It seems they are willing to shell out anywhere between a whopping Rs 75 lakh and Rs 1 crore for Salman Khan’s ex-girlfriend just for a five day shoot!
But it’s not just her who’s being offered this fee. According to a source, another hot Bollywood heroine, Deepika Padukone, who’s working with Supertsar Rajinikanth in Rana, is also being lured to do the item number with this fee.
Deepika is a much sought-after heroine currently in Kollywood. The source adds, “Apparently, the makers want either Katrina or Deepika and yes, the fee being offered is Rs 1 crore!”
Another Bollywood heroine whose items numbers have set the screen on fire is Bipasha Basu. Apparently, this actress could also be in the running for this sizzling song-and-dance routine with Sonu.
Looks like the race to find Simbu’s Munni is on!

Munni song is yet to be composed: STR

Silambarasan is in no mood to grab unnecessary attention by reacting to statements made by his colleauges like Bharath and Jiiva.

In fact both the stars lashed out at STR in recent press meets, with Jiiva even calling him a “back stabber”.
STR said: “I think only insecure people try to do back biting and grab attention by making unwarranted sensational statements and I don’t want to give undue importance to them by commenting on what they said about me”
The star has completed work on Osthi in Mysore and is all amused about the attention that the film and the famous Munni song is getting.
Says STR : “Everyday there is something written about the Munni song. I read reports stating that Nayanthara is doing the song and on the same day another paper reports that Katrina Kaif is doing the item number! This will be a new song and the truth is that music director Thaman is yet to compose the tune. It will be a fast peppy song and the set is getting ready in Chennai. The girl who will be doing the song along with me and Sonu Sood is yet to be finalised”

Osthi which is now snapped by Reliance is now complete and the makers are planning to release it for Diwali. Recently, a song Neduveli... was shot (see pic) in a set resembling a police station with STR, Richa and dancers choreographed by Robert.

STR's 'Munni' with fancy price tags? - IG

Silambarasan aka STR is working on a fast pace at his diwali release, 'Osthi', thats a remake of Bollywood blockbuster 'Dabangg' that featured Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.
The film also featured a song 'Munni Badnaam Hui...' that became a smashing hit and received international popularity. With the film being remade in Tamil, the one question that remains is who will reprise this hot number as Simbu's Munni in 'Osthi'.
The latest is that Simbu and his team are keen on featuring a Bollywood top-notch actress, like Katrina Kaif of 'Sheila Ki Jawani...' fame or 'Rana' girl Deepika Padukone and Simbu and Dharani are willing to shell out up to one crore rupees for this actress!
Even Bipasha Basu, B'town's dusky beauty who is currently shooting on a Hindi film with Madhavan at Greece is being considered for this item number. It may be mentioned she has earlier appeared in Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 'Sachin'.
Sources close to the unit reveal that although Simbu and Dharani are keen on featuring a Bollywood actress, if it does not work out, they are very much open for a debutante as well.
The hunt for Simbu's 'Osthi' continues, now willing to satisfy a fancier price tag of one crore rupees! Who would you suggest for STR? Katrina, Deepika, Bipasha or a newbie?

Dharani made me work like Chitti Robo:STR

Silambarasan is a mad genius, who does many things at the same time.

He is shooting for Osthi, writing script for the film that he is directing, crooning for other heroes and penning lyrics for songs.

Currently, the actor is completing work on Osthi, in Mysore.

He spoke to sify.com: "I can’t believe that Osthi is complete and only two songs are remaining. We shot the film in record number of days and all credit goes to Dharani’s perfect planning and execution. He made me work like Chitti Robo (Laughs) from early mornings to late night.”

STR adds: “ Dharani is clear headed and he is in complete sync with me which brings the best in me. The dubbing for the film has started in Chennai and it will be my Diwali release”

Osthi to combine best of STR and Dharani

Dharani is one flamboyant filmmaker who leaves his imprint on every film he makes even if it is a remake. It is the director's working style to write the screenplay along the quirks and traits of the main character so that the film makes a proper impact. He used this technique in films like Dhil, Dhool, and Gilli and will be doing the same for Osthi, his remake of Dabaang with STR.
STR is a very charismatic star with a magnetic screen presence and Dharani is keen to develop the screenplay along the lines of his onscreen persona. Therefore though Osthi is a remake it has been rewritten to incorporate the best of Dharani and STR and will have the freshness of an original work in addition to fully satisfying the fans of both.

Osthi is very close to my heart: STR

Silambarasan aka STR is sometimes impatient, sometimes temperamental and sometimes impulsive.

He had proved once again with Vaanam that his phenomenal star power is simply un parallel. It is his child like vulnerability that strikes you the most, when you speak to him.

He may give the ‘I’m-casual-about-my-work’ vibe but there would be no compromises when it comes to work, even if that means shooting all night long without breaks.

If he loves something, he will go to any extent of pushing himself as seen by the working pattern he chose during filming of Vaanam and now Osthi.

The talkie portion of Dharani directed Osthi is complete, in a single schedule in Mysore and STR is going back next week to complete the last two songs and patch work.

With that the film is ready, probably the fastest film of STR to be completed.

Quiz him about Osthi, he says: “Osthi is very close to my heart. It is a subject that I believed in strongly. Dharani has been a great person to work with and we completed the film is record number of days without any problems or egos. Osthi will release for Diwali”.

So what next for the young superstar? He will be completing his long-delayed Poda Podi and then moving on to his pet project Kettavan next year, a film which he will be directing. He has Vettai Mannan directed by Nelson and a film to be directed by Vetrimaran in the pipeline

But why only masala films and not hard hitting realistic films? STR laughs in his inimitable style: “Why would you want to depress people instead of giving them entertainment? There are already depressed, why do you want to depress them more?

STR Croons for Osthi

The actor will be singing two songs in this film that is set to release a single soon

First it was Evandi Unne Pethan… from  Vaanam. Then it was Vilayadu Mankatha…from  Mankatha. Now, it is Osthi starring Simbu and Richa Gangopadhyay, which will have a single track being  released, well before the official
audio launch of the film. Confirming the news, Thaman, the music director of the film, says, “Yes. We will be releasing the title track of the film shortly — possibly within a week or so. The song is in the post production stage.” STR, who is known to croon a number in almost all his films, will be singing in Osthi as well. A source confirms to Simbuworld that STR will be singing two songs in this movie. “One will be a mass number and the other one will be a duet with Shreya Ghoshal,” the source adds. What remains to be seen however, is if Osthi will have a Munni badnaam hui… number. “The team,” Thaman informs, “even considered dubbing the same song to Tamil. However,
I refused. I wanted some fresh tunes, something that would suit the Tamil sensibilities. Essentially, we looked at creating a mass appeal.” Ask him if this is the mass song that Simbu is to croon and he remains tightlipped, saying that he wants it to be a surprise.

Simbu's 'Osthi' to see a single track release - IG Exclusive

Single track audio releases seem to have become the fad of the day in Tamil cinema, what with a number of leading films releasing promotional audio tracks before the actual audio DVD hits the stands, thus creating more expectations than ever.

Grapevine has it that STR's forthcoming film, 'Osthi', will join this league and will see a one track audio release! The tunes for 'Osthi' are composed by Thaman and the megaphone for this action-packed entertainer is wielded by Dharani.

It may be mentioned that Simbu's previous film, 'Vaanam', had seen a single song release as well and it was well-received by fans and music lovers. The original film, 'Dabaang' in Hindi, had a smashing item number, 'Munni Badnaam Hui...', and expectations are high to see the remake of this number and fans are eager to know who will reprise this hot song in Simbu's film.

The talkie portion's shoot has been wrapped up and the film features Simbu and Richa Gangopadhyay in lead roles, with Jithan Ramesh, Saranya Mohan, Revathy and Sonu Sood in pivotal roles...

Simbu speaks on 'Osthi' to IndiaGlitz

IndiaGlitz caught up with Simbu who spoke exclusively on 'Osthi's status quo. While there were many reports in the media that Madhu Shalini of 'Avan Ivan' fame will play Jithan Ramesh's pair, all that has been rubbished by the protagonist, Simbu, who also expressed that this role will be played by Saranya Mohan.
He further added that the talkie portions of the film have been shot! The talkie portions have been shot in a short span of just thirty days! The songs and the action sequences will be canned shortly. The tunes for 'Osthi' are composed by Thaman.
Silambarasan aka Simbu's forthcoming film 'Osthi' is moving at a fast pace. The film is the Tamil remake of Salman Khan's Hindi super hit, 'Dabaang', and this remake version is directed by Dharani and has Richa Gangopadhyay playing the female lead. The original role was reprised by Sonakshi Sinha.
